The NLP Track was what I needed. I had been using transformer models at work for about a year without really understanding the architecture. After the first three weeks I had filled in most of the gaps. The office hours were particularly useful — small enough that you could actually ask something specific and get a useful answer.

The NLP Track suited my background well — I came with a strong understanding of language but without the engineering experience. The implementation exercises were challenging without being inaccessible. I had to work quite hard on the tokenisation exercises, but the extra effort was worth it.

By the time I started the Conversational AI programme I had the vocabulary and conceptual background to engage with the portfolio project from week one rather than spending months catching up. I found the reading list genuinely impressive. The choices were deliberate — the papers were accessible enough for someone new to the technical literature but not so simplified that I felt the content had been sanitised. From analytics to NLP engineering in fourteen weeks
Starting point
Theerachat had three years of data analytics experience and had started using pre-trained NLP models in production at his company. He understood how to call the APIs but not what the models were doing — and found it difficult to make decisions about which models to use or how to evaluate their outputs meaningfully.
During the programme
He worked through the NLP Track over fourteen weeks while continuing full-time employment. The implementation exercises gave him a structured way to apply each concept to real data from his work context. He found the encoder-decoder module particularly useful for his immediate situation.
Afterwards
He reports being able to read and assess NLP papers independently, having a clearer process for model selection, and no longer relying entirely on library defaults for evaluation. He is now considering the Conversational AI programme for next year.

A linguist building a reading vocabulary for technical AI
Starting point
Piyaporn's research touched on computational approaches to Thai text processing, but her background was in formal linguistics. She found AI literature largely inaccessible — too much assumed knowledge, too little explanation of fundamental concepts.
During the programme
She started with the Foundations course, which gave her the vocabulary and conceptual frame she needed. She moved into the NLP Track in the following cohort. The tokenisation modules were directly relevant to her research on Thai language processing, which the course reading also addressed.
Afterwards
She now collaborates more productively with the engineering team at her university, has co-authored a short paper on tokenisation for Thai text, and continues a weekly reading practice of one paper from the NLP literature.
